That Copper Full Persian that goes for $45 is now only $35! If you want a Friendship set it would be $60 instead of $90!!!!

I am offering $20 off for the flat price. If you get an earriing set that jumps to $35 off.

So a Scale Necklace is normally $65 but is now only $45!

Basic Weaves, Everything from Bracelets to Necklaces

The Weaves:

So here are some basic weaves. Well some of these are not so basic. . . ANYWAYS. . . Remember that I will be using these examples as bracelets. There are TONS of examples of these as necklaces.

Be warned, necklaces will gost around double of what I price on here based on length of the necklace. Prices can also vary based on the Gauge of the wire used. Smaller wire increases  time to make these beauties and thus the price.

I have learned a motto from some of the more experienced maillers out there;

"One must ALWAYS value the time they put in"

Before we get started, let me say that these works are not my own. They will be replaced with my own works as I go. These are however weaves I KNOW how to do. SO please do not worry about the quality, it is as good as some of these pictures if not better and will be shown when I get a decent camera and some work to show off (heheheh in a week or so!)

Anyways, here we go!

Jens Pind:

Let us start with one of the MOST beloved weaves. No it is not European 4-1 but Jens Pind Link also know as JPL.
Gold Jens Pend Link Bracelet
Now the most interesting thing about this weave is that if made too loosely it actually can unwind itself! If you look every link that is facing up (top of the ring is towards you) it is suspended by its brothers on either side.

JPL is also a bother to weave. Some bracelets (7.5" to 10") take upwards of 6-10 HOURS to make! The simple reason of why it takes so long is because when you weave JPL, you have to CONSTANTLY readjust the link so they do not Unweave! It is a major issue with this particular weave. Couple with the Tight Aspect Ratio (AR) JPL is a costly piece of chain. A basic Copper one that looks like this could EASILY run $150+ and that is just at 7.5" long!

Byzantine:

Silver Byzantine Bracelet

Split Anodized Aluminum Bright Silver Byzantine Necklace with some Ruby Beads.
So here are 2 GREAT examples of Byzantine! Byzantine is also know as the Bird Cage Weave and it amazing! OH Let me apologize for the size of that Necklace picture. It was hard to see the links at any other size!

In the first Picture we have a basic silver Byzantine bracelet about 8" or so long. This weave is great for guys and gals. Now being a guy myself I am not sure why we like this style, it just is really appealing. . . Maybe I should do a Poll!!!

Byzantine is a pretty complex weave, now no where as near as JPL though! It takes maybe 3-5 hours for a 7.5"-10" bracelet. It gets easier once you get started and there are a couple of ways to speed weave it. Thankfully because of this a basic bracelet as shown in basic Stainless Steel would run you $40-$70, and it gets more expensive based on what you want used. Copper and Silver are very popular but are also expensive!

Queen's Link Chain:

Now here is the sister of the Byzantine.

Sterling Silver Queen's Link Bracelet

Now this is the Queen's Link Chain. It will look simmilar to 3 of the weaves I will present to you. First of all the Basic comparison is to the Byzantine. If you look at the cages of the Byzantine, you will see the links that make up half of those cages. NOW the difference is now noticiable between the two. Byzantine is linked and reversed but the Queen's Link is not.

Another Comparison would be to the very beautiful Full Persian which is next on our list. 2 MAJOR differences there. First the Links are not as tight for the Queen's Link compared to the, which leads to the second difference. The second difference is that the links of the Full Persian are INSIDE the link behind it. The Queen's Link on the other hand have the ends of the links on the outside. Do not worry you will see it later. It took me a good 10 minutes to figure that one out on my own. . .

NOW about the Queen's Link. It is a simple weave as they go. By no means a Box Chain which is the last chain it looks similar too. The Weave takes roughly 2-4 hours to make the standard 7.5" - 10" bracelet meaning that they are not as expensive as the last two weaves we have looked at tonight. It is by no means the most inexpensive but it is in the top 3 or so.

You are looking at a copper version of this bracelet at about $30-50 based on size as usual.

Full Persian:

Oh god, the pretty boy of chain. . . I am not kidding. . . here let me show you!

Copper Full Persian 6-1
Look at this thing! In copper or silver guys love this weave, make it gold or silver women swoon. This weave does it all. It is also one of the easier to make. All you really have to do while weaving it is to make sure that the new links are split into the V shape that you see. Simple and rather inexpensive.

Full Persian Bracelets run anywhere from $45 in copper like the one you see here to $80 foother medians. They take about 3-4 hours of work and look AMAZING!

Now there are MANY other variations of Full Persian, Just like the European 4-1 there is Full Persian 6-1 and even 8-1.

The tricky part of Full Persian is that when you make a link you have to loop the connecting piece through a tip of the V infront of the one you are putting in. Here is a picture. . .
Can you see it? Looks simple but you need a good AR in order to make it work. Too tight and it will NOT bend, to loose and well. . . like water is a great term.

Celtic Visions:

Oh here is a great looking weave!

Celtic Visions Bracelet

So Celtic Visions, god what can you NOT do with this weave. . . I have seen stars (Made said star as well for a pendant of a Scale Necklace), Bracelets, Heart pendants, the List goeson and on really.

This is a rather simple weave as you can see the "Points" of the bracelet are atcually only being held inplace by how tight the interjoing links are. This weave requires 2 different sizes of rings to work.

A chain for a Bracelet with this weave can take upwards of 2-3 hours making this a really inexpensive gift during the Christmas Season. Average costs place this chain at for bracelet length at about $30-45 which is pretty good if you ask me.

Let us see what is next shall we!

Half Persian:

Half Persian is just that, it is HALF of the Full Persian that we looked at earlier.

3-1 Silver Half Persian Bracelet
Half Persian is a simple and cost effective gift, it takes anywhere from a single hour to 3 hours to complete if you know wht your doing. Actually the hardest part is linking the weave together. Half Persian is a favorite among men because not only does it lay flay but it is rather unobtrusive (always a plus in my book)

Prices vary from $25-45 depending on length, and as always materials and gauge of the rings change this often.

This will be one of the first projects I will post up on my blog when my material reach me!

Helm Chain:

Anodized Aluminum Green and Silver Helm Chain Bracelet
Helm chain is just that, what they use to do to link helms to one's chin. Now it is an attractive work of art. You need two different ring sizes and some patience but the result is stunning.

Time to make these vary as all Chain Maille do, it is based on the size and AR maily for this weave. A TIGHT Helm Chain takes much longer to work with because of getting those pesky links connected.

Cost is pretty good I would say, due to taking anywhere from 1 hour to 3 hours on a good day these rainge from $20 to $50. Still with the right colors these look amazing!

Japanese _ in _:

So there is a reason for the blanks. Here let me show you!
Japanese 12 in 2 Ring

Japanese 12 in 2 with a Full Persian bracelet

Japanese 12 in 2 Necklace

Japanese 12 in 1
First of, yes those are rubber glow in the dark RINGS! Yes ravers, yes parents who what to give their kids something they will love be kept busy with on dark nights. It glows in the dark. (Yes glow in the dark rings can be used on ALL of the weaves I will show you)

Ok Now on to the explanation of Japanese Chain Maille. It is rather simple. If you count the small rings connecting the larger rings you will see there are 12 of these. Correct? (Go ahead, count them, I got time. . . . . . .Got it? Great!) Good now for the next part, if you look at the larger rings you will notice there are either 1 or 2, (well the only one with 1 large ring is the glowing one. . . )

So Japanese's first number is based on the ammount of connectors on a middle ring and and the number of that center ring, so all of these are 12 in _.

Now Japanese takes TIME to make, it is really consuming but beautiful when completed. The third picture shows a BEAUTIFUL necklace, this makes Japanese _ in _ so attractive to people. The weave can also be used to make a flower form as shown in the second picture.

Due to the time a bracelet takes, the pice can range from $80-120 basedon length and ring size. Time is like 5-8 hours but is all consuming at best. There are room for mistakes but due to the size of the connecting rings it is hard to fix them at times.

Stepping Stones:

Ahh a favorite of women almost everywhere. The Stepping Stones.

Stepping Stones with Blue Anodized Aluminum rings

This is a slightly complicated weave requiring three different sizes of rings!

Now this looks like a Japanese style of chain and it almost is. It is actually a variant of Japanese 12 in 2 and Hodo (will do Hodo at a later date!) Stepping Stones have some amazing works. The whole weave is based on how far you wish to go arounf the large ring. Here let me show you a set of earrings that impressed me greatly with this!

See these earrings! Sorry for the large picture but I want you to see what I mean about being able to go almost all the way around. I have seen a few examples of this weave goingfurther up the large rings.

Now these take a ton of time, this is due to using the different sizes of the rings and how they are woven with each other. Some weaves are looser and require less time because they almost put themselves together. The tighter ones require work to get them together.

Priced, Stepping stones will run for a bracelet $45-90. Earrings are easier, about $30 for a set. Time to make, you are looking at 2-5 hours all based on AR.

Box Chain:

This is the last weave for now (Yea let that sigh out. . . yea, yea, yea. . . ) Anyways, The Box Chain is a simple weave as they go (Yes I know I have said that for almost all of these)
Silver Box Chain Bracelet

So as you can see, the Box Chain looks a lot like the Queen's Link and Full Persian. There are som differences. First, the Queen's Link is further spaced apart compared to the Box Chain. Second the Full Persian has the V's going right into the next one, the Box Chain doesnot have this.

The Box Chain takes roughly the same amount of time that it would for a Queen's Chain. So the price is the roughly the same.

Now the Box Chain is a favorite of guys, it could be because it is a heave chain with a tight weave, it could be because it is like the thought of protection, or it could very well be because we just like the look of it. Who knows right?

You know what Why don't you all tell me what you think!

Well I am off! I have commissions to plan and to work the details out! As always if you have ANY just let me know!

What's Weaving Today? 17NOV2012

SO as I promised on my Facebook page here is my weekly article of what I am currently working on. Also known as "What's Weaving Today?"

So, what AM I working on?

Good thing you asked.

Right now and sadly with a lack of photos, here are my currents works and commissions! Since I do not have photos of what they look like currently I will be using what they will looklike when finished! Hopefully that helps!

Right now I am working on a few things:

First lets look at some Butterflies and some Flowers.

These are being made on commission by some of my friends from the Nerdish Underground.

The flowers at least are for one of the guys at NU but are a christmas present for his nieces!  Sweet of him huh? The flowers come in sets of 2 and so do the Butterflies for that matter. The sets cost for just basic flowers and butterflies $8 for the pair. Now he is getting these as hairclips is an extra $2 for the set.

Now I can do these as Hailclips, or I can have them as lapels, hair ties can also be added, and these can also be made in to basic pins.

Next lets look at a Dragonscale set of Items!

Now Dragonscale is the weave that made me fall in love with Chain Maille so it is only right that it is the weave I dote on the most!

Yes this is a Dragonscale tie!

Now as you can see from at least the last 2 photos, Dragonscale has 2 sizes of rings. With Dragonscale you can make either the bigger rings or smaller rings two different colors with ease.

Dragonscale takes a good amount of time to make. For instance that Dragonscale Tie photo is 20-30 hours of work! and $50 of materials. . . Overall depending if you want the Micromaille version which is what the photo is, that will run close to $400 due to time and cost. The Non-micromaille is about $100 less due to less work needed.

The bottom two photos are not THAT expensive but still take 3-7 hours to complete.

I am actually working on a bracelet right now that I will sell for $65 (YAY Christmas Special!) It will look like the bottom photo but have red rings! If you want one commissioned just email me and we can work it all out!

I am also working on the Tie for a friend. Good Man, I will have my Male Model show it off when it is done!

Lastly I am working on a Dragonscale Belt! This belt is about 2 inches wide and Adjustable but I am making it for someone with a 30 Waist. These come in ALL sizes! Due to the time involved these run about the price of the Tie, $250 + based on length.

Lastly aNecklace and Earring set!

Sadly I do not have photos for these yet because these are my ownpersonal design.

I will give a photo and add details so you can imagine what it looks like ok! At least for the Earrings I can do this.

Ok for the Earrings these are 2 sets or earrings for my friend who happens to be my male model as well. (You will see him in his pauldrons when they are done. . .OH and the ties!)
These are Christmas presents and they are as I said my own personal deisgn.

So first this is first. The earrings are Mobius Dragon Tears. Now you may have heard of Dragon Tear earrings (there is a youtube video some where. . . ) but these have a different step in them! Now for context the Pink and silver chain is what the earrings will look like from the ear to the scales. The Pink rings are what is called a Mobius. These are 2 or more rings linked together (each ring links to each other ring in the Mobius) In this variation it is called a 2 and 2 with Mobius.

Now at the end of the earring with is only 6 links of the 2 and 2 Mobius long will have 2 Scales like the ones you see in the picture of the flowers. I am making it so the bigger scale is the person's top favorite color while the smaller one is their second pick. Simple eh? These do take a bit of time to do and each of these sets cost only $15 each.

Now the Necklace is special, I call these 2 necklaces, Circles of Love. You see people have a belief that those to the leftof you are the ones you love and to the right is your strength. Most cases this is one and the same person, sometimes it is not.

In this case we are going with the latter. So each of these necklaces are using small scales that are linked in a Scale;Scale;;Scale;Scale;;Scale;Scale (; = ring links) at the center of these and where they are connected is a Celtic Star. Underneath the Celtic Star there is the connector. Now the star is made from the favorite colors where the points are their secondary colors and the body is the primary.

The total set runs at $80+ normally but due to the Christmas Special (will go into detail next post on this) They are now just $60 a set! That is 2 earrings and a Circle of love with the Pendent of your choice in the center.

As always if you are interested just send me an Email and we will work out the details!

The start of a Grand Business!

GREETINGS!

So you can tell from my title I have just started a business! YAY ME!

Now a few of you might even guess what type of business. Either were told already OR the name gave it away. Regardless let me tell you what this is all about!

This is a business that deals in a myraid of products, from clothing, to jewellery, to gear, and the list can go on and on. "What does this?" You might be asking yourself. . . and the answer is. . . Chian Maille!

Yes, the old art of chain maille. Now some of you know that this was used for armor, but recently it became a form of art. Everything from as stated jewellery, to clothing. Chain Maille is a beauty in the form of metal linked and woven together.

So as you have seen from the photo added so far, this is more than a mere hobby, it is my life now. I enjoy the soothing work behind weaving links together, the complication of analyzing a new weave, and the Thrill of making something wonderful.

I am currently taking commission, but within a month or so I will have a link to a storefront where you can purchase items at whim.

Now I cna not show you EVERYTHING I can do but I can do just about anything. Somethings are more expensive based on the complexity and the cost of time & materials.

If you have any questions send me a message or email Majestic.Chain.Maille@gmail.com
